Specialty Roaster & Brew Bar
Single-origin beans sourced from Ethiopia, Colombia, and Brazil. Roasted in small batches at our De Waterkant workshop and served the way coffee was meant to be.
Our Story
Driftwood was born in 2017 when founder Lena Hartman returned from a year in Ethiopia with a suitcase full of green beans and no sensible plan. She bought a small drum roaster, cleared out her garage in De Waterkant, and started selling bags door to door.
Seven years on, the garage is now a proper brew bar. The roaster is still small by design. Every cup still comes from beans we selected, sourced, and roasted ourselves.

What People Say
Best flat white in Cape Town, and I've looked. The space is calm, the staff actually know coffee, and the almond croissant should probably be classified as a controlled substance.
I moved here from Melbourne and I was convinced Cape Town couldn't do specialty coffee properly. Driftwood proved me wrong in about 30 seconds. Ethiopian Guji poured through a V60. Incredible.
We've been doing a standing Monday meeting here for two years. Consistent, never loud, never rushed. The monthly subscription box converted our whole office off capsules. Worth every rand.
